Our team of passionate event manager’s genuinely love what they do. This week we took a moment to be inspired by our fearless leader and company Director, Dee Nicholas who was reluctant at first to answer our first question – how long have you been working in the crazy world of events?
Dee’s 25 years experience in events, conferences and incentives is impressive in our view and it is this unique experience of events of all shapes and sizes, all over the world, that makes her the best at what she does!
You have worked on so many incredible events in your career – what one stands out the most and why?
There are so many events that stand out for me for so many different reasons! One particular incentive stands out from many years ago. An endless budget and no limits to our ability to be creative saw us designing many amazing events and activities over a week, right across Australia. 200 Spanish automotive delegates were treated to the best Australia has to offer – from snow on the Tasmanian mountains to balmy One & Only Hayman. We worked closely with Qantas to charter a plane to transport the guests seamlessly chris crossing Australia. These events were incredible and we really pushed the boundaries with our amazing event suppliers as to what could be done. This incentive was a real moment in my career because I learnt the great lesson to urge our suppliers to think outside the box by working closely with them and coming up with solutions together to create the seemingly impossible. Anything is achievable and this event really showcased that.
So many unplanned things can happen when working on events – what is your best tip to ensure a corporate event runs smoothly?
Never assume anything.
Cross check. Cross check. Cross check.
Reconfirm. Reconfirm. Reconfirm.
What tip would you give someone starting out in the industry? What are the key skills it takes to be an event manager?
The reality of the events industry is that – it is bloody hard work!
You have to be completely passionate and totally dedicated and understand from the get go that hard work, long and weird hours are all part of the fun and excitement.
Chardonnay or Shiraz?
Champagne. Always.
